Viscous Coupling
A viscous coupling is a mechanical device that transmits torque between rotating components using a viscous fluid. It provides smooth, progressive torque transfer as speed differences occur between the driving and driven components.
As slip increases, fluid resistance rises and torque transfer increases, helping reduce shock loading and vibration compared with rigid couplings.
Viscous couplings are commonly encountered on auxiliary drives, and checks may form part of sweeper maintenance requirements for fleets working highways and road maintenance services routes.
