Dry Film Thickness (DFT)

Dry film thickness (DFT) is the thickness of a coating once solvents have evaporated and the film has fully cured. It is a key quality measure for coatings and road marking materials.

DFT is checked using calibrated gauges to confirm that applied material meets specification. Under-application can reduce durability, while excessive build can cause cracking, slow curing, or premature failure depending on the system.

DFT measurement is standard practice in road marking operations and surface treatment work, and is often reviewed alongside a surface texture gauge and output control within spray tanker services.
